Free Heartworm Testing In April

Who: Any dog in the area not currently on monthly heartworm preventatives.

When: April 2012.  Please call 541-935-4151 to arrange a time.

Where: Veneta Veterinary Hospital.  88233 Territorial Rd., Veneta, OR.

How: This test requires 3 drops of blood with results in 10 minutes.

Why: Our hospital has treated dozens of cases of heartworm in the past 10 years, and we think there are more out there.  Tell your neighbors too, because each infected dog helps infect dozens more!  You can read more information about heartworm here.

Fine Print: If all you need is a heartworm test, there is absolutely no cost to you, and no further contact is needed.  We ask only for your name and city for reporting purposes to the state veterinarian.  A simple monthly pill will prevent heartworm disease, so we would like to see every dog taking them.  These are prescription medicines, so state law requires a physical exam to dispense.  There are fees associated with the exam and heartworm preventatives if needed.  Please call 541-935-4151 if you have any further questions.

Special thanks to Dr. Emelio DeBess, our state veterinarian, for helping to make this program possible and also for collecting data about heartworm and other diseases.  His efforts help us track and ultimately control infectious diseases that endanger our pets.
